Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

The PNP is a decentralised immigration program that mandates provinces and territories (with the exception of Quebec) to manage their own immigration system to meet their unique needs. The selection process must also meet certain federal requirements. It is a fast track option available to become a Permanent Resident.

Potential applicants must have the skills, education and work experience to contribute to the economy of their chosen province or territory and have intention to live there. 

How the program works
This program is for workers who:

• have the skills, education and work experience to contribute to the economy of a specific province or territory
• want to live in that province, and
• want to become permanent residents of Canada

Each province and territory has its own “streams” (immigration programs that target certain groups) and requirements. For example, in a program stream, provinces and territories may target:

• students
• business people
• skilled workers
• semi-skilled workers

If the province or territory agrees to nominate you, you create an Express Entry profile and show you have been nominated. You get a nomination through your account, which you accept electronically. The following Provinces are currently participating in the PNP:

• Alberta
• British Columbia (BC PNP)
• Manitoba
• New Brunswick
• Newfoundland and Labrador
• Northwest Territories
• Nova Scotia
• Ontario
• Prince Edward Island
• Saskatchewan
• Yukon
